The Society
Our Society was founded in 1995 and has gone from strength to strength with meetings taking place once a month. A small annual membership fee of £5 to members who attend the meetings is charged which enables the researcher to access our resources such as microfiche machines and fiches, books and local history records.By encouraging and developing an interest in genealogy (tracing 0nes ancestors) the Society hopes to offer help and advice to its members on researching their family trees. The Society also aims to preserve and collate information about inscriptions from locality and it's people such as taking memorial inscriptions from local graveyards, index census takings and church records.
The society was formed because the area around Ystradgynlais straddles to two
counties, Glamorgan and Breconshire and has a third county, Carmarthenshire
nearby. This can make life difficult when trying to trace your ancestors in
the area. By collating the information about the locality in one place research
and preservation can be made much easier.
